Mid 19th Century Daguerreotype of a Woman In Embossed Leather Case. Sixth-plate (2 ¾ x 3 ¼ inch) in a case constructed from wood milled by hand and covered with decorative leather embossed with floral design on front and back. The mat and the preserver frame are made of brass. Few oxidation marks are visible on the mat. This Daguerreotype photograph was made on a highly polished copper plate coated with silver; the image has a reflective, mirror-like appearance and is in very good condition.
