19th Century French Camera Lucida By Berville

This instrument was made and signed by the famous French scientific instrument maker P. Berville in Paris with lacquered brass components enclosed in a leather covered box with red felt and satin interior. The Camera Lucida consists of a set of 12 lenses, table clamp and fixing screws, telescoping system with 2 draw tubes for adjustment and focusing and fine adjustment with a rack and pinion mechanism , and a triangular crystal prism with a single coated surface mounted on an adjustable lens holder. This Camera Lucida was used for copying, reducing, enlarging or reverse drawing of objects in true perspective. It is Signed P.B. Chambre Claire Universelle, Modele Depose, P. Berville, 25, Chausse d'Antin. Paris. The box dimensions 27.5 X 6.5 cm (10.8 X 2 ½ inches).
