Item#: SOI1073

SOLD

This small brass microscope retained its original lacquer and has very good optics. The body tube telescopes to allow for different focal length. Specimens are held onto the square stage and illuminations are possible through a sub stage rotating mirror for transparent slides or a removable 3.0 cm epi-illumination lens for observing opaque samples. This microscope has a body tube approximately 10 cm (4 inch) long with a compound lens objective screwed on the bottom and a X15 ocular lens. Diameter of the brass base is approximately 5.5 cm (2.2 inches). Manufacturer and origin of the microscope is not known, however it looks very similar to a French microscope manufactured in 1840 (Page 206, Billings Microscope Collection, Second Edition). Comes in its original mahogany case with dimension of: 20 X 8.5 cm (8 X 3.5 inches).
