Jerusalem. The Complete Set of Stereocards by Underwood & Underwood 1895-1904. Underwood & Underwood began publishing stereographs in 1890 and established an educational unit in 1895. Around 1900 they introduced boxed sets, with specific themes such as education, religion, and travel, depicting tourist areas of the world. ‘Traveling in the Holy Land’ was a popular boxed set of 100 Stereocards from which a selection of 27 cards with historical sites in Jerusalem was selected as the special ‘Jerusalem Tour’ set. These cards (copyrighted 1895-1904) were consecutively numbered from 9 to 35 and were inserted in a book-like box. Each card includes two Albumen prints photographed with a stereo-camera, a short description of the site and the company’s logo. Also included, is the book 'Jerusalem Through the Stereoscope', which describes the sites depicted on each picture. The book was published in 1908.
