Disston Early No. 14 Backsaw - Two in One. This Disston Saw was designed to be two saws in one, for both tenoning and dovetailing. One side is 13 points, crosscut, and the other is 9 points, rip. The handle is probably Cherrywood with the engraved foliate design.There is a single sawnut, and the medalion is for the dates 1896-1917. This type of saw was only made between the years 1915 and 1932. The blade angle is adjustable. On the cross piece the patent date Jan 27 1914 is stamped. Henry Disston was born in England but emigrated to the USA at age 14. In 1840 he started his saw factory. The company changed its name to Disston and Son in 1865, when Henry Disston's eldest son Hamilton joined the business. In 1871 Albert, Henry's seccond son joined and the company changed its name to Disston and Sons. The compamny went out of business in 1955.
