French ‘Super Camera Lucida’ by Berville. This nickel-plated instrument was made and signed by the famous French scientific instrument maker P. Berville in Paris, and was regarded as the state of the art in optical instruments for drawing objects. Signed ‘P.B. Chambre Claire Universelle, Brevete S.D.G.D. Made in France, Modele et Maroue deposes’. This Camera Lucida was used for copying, reducing, enlarging or reverse drawing of objects in true perspective. It is enclosed in red felt and satin lined black case comprising of a set of 12 lenses, table clamp and fixing screws, telescoping system with 3 drawtubes and rack-and-pinion for fine adjustment and focusing, and a triangular crystal prism with a single coated surface mounted on an adjustable lens holder. Case dimension: 28 X 6.5 cm (11 X 2 ˝ inches). All parts are in mint condition. ‘Brevete S.G.D.G.’ means that the item has no patent number and cannot be patented since the idea was in use for a long time. |
