French Map Measure (Chartometer). This is an instrument to determine distances in miles, verstes or kilometers on maps and plans. Used for measuring roads, rivers, walls, etc. on maps. This device contains a tracing wheel with a dial converting inches to verstes and miles and centimeters to kilometers. The verste is an old route measurement used in Russia, which converts to 1067 meters (about two thirds of a mile).The chartometer comes in its original box, and is marked déposé HC it was made in France. The original instructions are attached to the outside of the box. |
