A 1940 Rare Brass Military Prismatic Mil Compass made in England by T.G. Co. Ltd. This model is a mark I prismatic compass No. 536931 dated 1940 with the army stamp. The mother-of-pearl card is marked with a scale in Mils (0-6400). The lid opens and the front prismatic sight folds over the compass to function as the front sight (it is marked on the inside - Mils). The prism allows viewing the compass card and the object being sighted simultaneously. The height of the front prismatic sight can be adjusted to focus the compass card. The lid has a scribed line in a glass window to serve as the rear sight. A brass bezel can be rotated and is marked off in 100 mil increments. The bezel has dents so one can change the heading reference a known amount without looking at the compass. A side adjustment varies the tension on the bezel movement mechanism. |
