Small Craft Precision Sextant for Celestial Navigation by Francis Barker and Son. This Aluminum precision drum shaped sextant was made in 1988 by Francis Barker & Son. The sextant diameter is 7.7 cm (3 inches) and consists of an engraved scale (0-150 degrees) with vernier and magnifying lens. A revolving index mirror and adjustable horizon mirror, two eyepieces to allow direct view through green filters are mounted on swing-arms. The smaller knurled knob unscrews for use as a tool to adjust the horizon mirror. The instrument is fitted in a drum shaped leather traveling case with a screw on the rear cover. The Barker & Son Ltd. Company worked in Edenbridge, Kent, and produced navigation instruments, globes, sundials and other instruments from the mid 1860's and continue to this day, under the aegis of another corporation. The sextant is in very good operational condition.
