Brass Pocket Magnetic Compass. This is a dry compass made in England with brass case and beveled glass cover, 3.5 cm (1 1/4 inch) in diameter. This instrument consists of a magnetized blued steel needle and a silvered plate printed with compass rose indicating both North and Magnetic North and other cardinal and sub-cardinal points as well as 360 degrees scale (graduated every 2 degrees). The compass is covered with beveled glass. The needle with jeweled center is mounted on a sharp pivot at the center of the case so as to permit the needle to rotate freely in the horizontal plane. A small lever raises the needle from the pivot and fixes its movement. |
