19th Century Ivory Compass And Map Measure Set. This is a unique and early ivory navigation set of small pocket instruments. The direction compass is composed of 3 parts: cylindrical hollow container, cup covered pivot holder and a magnetized blued steel needle concealed in the container. Length 7.7 cm (3 inch). The map measure heaving a rotating chrome-plated wheel (with circumference equal to Pay = 3.14 cm or 1.24 inch) and convenient ivory handle for easy maneuverability. It was made to determine distances by tracing roads, rivers, curves, contours, etc. on maps, patterns or drawings. Counting the number of wheel revolution and multiplying it by Pay makes the measurement of distance. Comes in its original trapezoidal leather case. |
