A 19th Century Pocket Aneroid Barometer by Adie & Wedderburn Edinburgh. A late Victorian, white metal round barometer with a diameter of 5 cm (2.5 inches). The scale extends from 25.6 to 31 inches divided into twentieth of an inch, with an altitude range of 5000 Ft. The glass bezel has a milled rim which can be rotated, so that readings can be marked and differences in pressure translated into altitude. The company of Adie and Wedderburn operated in Edinburgh between the years 1881-1899. The Adie family had been manufacturing meteorological and surveying instruments since the end of the 18th century. |
