This is a high quality 24 inch, 4 fold large Architect Ivory Ruler made by J. Rabone & Sons, Birmingham England. C.1880. The hinges are artistically made from German Silver and steel bearing. This rule has 18 sub scales with different divisions and a protractor. Michael Rabone founded his Birmingham firm in 1784. In 1877 John Rabone (grandson of Michael) changed the name to ‘John Rabone & Sons’. James Chesterman founded his Sheffield Company in 1820 and in 1963 both firms combined to become Rabone Chesterman with the three triangles trademark of J. Rabone. |
