One Yard Standard Stick. A stick made of a fruitwood for measument of exactly one yard. The yardstick was made by Edward Preston and Sons. At one end there is verification mark G2R 15, for King George the 5th (1915). There is also a further mark 'Dalton Barton & Co. Ltd'. Dalton and Barton were one of the foremost silk manufacturer' in England. Edward Preston & Sons Ltd., Birmingham, England, began manufacturing rules in 1825, slowly growing over several generations into a large company specializing in every conceivable type of tools: Planes, rules, measuring instruments, woodworking tools and other assorted tools. They were bought out in 1932 by Record Tools Company |
