An Artist Plumb Line to Aid Drawing or Painting Objects in Relative Verticality. This is a recent decorative artist plumb bob made of brass with ebonite body, ivoroid dots and elaborate brass point. This plumb bob is 7 cm (3 inch) long and was used by artists in drawing figures or objects from life. When the end of the string is held by the outstretched hand, one can judge the relative verticality of the lines in the object compared to the plumb bob. This is a traditional academic method of ascertaining the angles of a subject - the angle of leaning of a figure, the angle of the arms and legs of a figure as compared to the perfectly vertical line obtained by the plumb bob. |
