Fowler's Circular Slide Rule Calculator Type ‘Long Scale’. Fowler & Co. in Manchester made this pocket calculator during the 1930’s. It was designed for engineers; draughtsman and science students with several advantages over straight slide rules. The calculator consists of two dials and two rotating knobs. These dials are synchronized with a rotating radial hairline cursor to solve problems with cubes; powers; roots, Log, sin, cos, tan as well as routine arithmetic. The dial’s diameter is 2 3/8 inch and the scale length is 30 inches. The price of a ‘Long Scale’ in leather case was 1 pound 5 shillings and sixpence as listed on the accompanying leaflet printed on 21/10/1933. The original heavy leather case lined with red velvet is stamped ‘Fowlers Calculator’.
