English Collapsible Money Scales By Wilkinson. Late18th Century. This is a brass self-raising steelyard type pocket coin balance, with two positions swing-over weight for the guinea and it’s half. The coin is placed on the folding H shaped hanger. This type opens up when the hinged lid of its mahogany box is fully opened. Made in England and signed by ‘A. WILKINSON, ORMSKIRK, (Late of Kirkby) Near Liverpool’ on a printed label in the box. The original trade label, in good condition, contains instruction of how to use the scales.
