German Money Scales And Counterfeit Detector. This is an ingenious invention of money scales to weigh a constant number of coins. Made from steel on wooden base by Herbert Kawaletz in Heidelberg Germany, and used by bankers to detect counterfeit coins wrapped in rolls of 50 coins. In this way 50 coins of 1 Pfennig (0.01DM) would make 0.50 DM and 50 coins of 5 Pfennig (0.05DM) would amount to 2.50 DM and so on for all 8 types of German coins. The weight of the wrapping paper would be compensated for with the adjusting screw. Base size 33X10 cm (13 ¼ X 4 inch). |
