An Early 19th Century Folding Guinea and Sovereign Scale. This is a fine and rare gold coin scale made of brass and steel, folded into a thick-lidded mahogany case. It is an equal arm type pan & plate balance that is self-erected when the lid opens. Inside the case are 5 slots with verified Knobbed coin weights as follows: Guinea 5 8 with anchor, Sovereign with anchor, 2 16 with lion, ½ S with lion, 7 S with lion. All with outer rim decorated with concentric circle. The case 13.5 cm (5 ½ inch) long and 4 cm (1 ½ inch) wide. |
