English C-Spring Scale called the 'Mancur Balance'. This type was used in Europe as well as in the Unites States in the 19th century. The scale is hand made by forging an elliptical steel spring stripe, two suspension rings, two load hooks and a brass dial plate with graduations in two scales from 20 to 260 and 1 to 35 pounds. The steel pointer in an old fashion style is hinged to the C-spring. By changing the hooks, a different sensitivity is achieved. The maker trademark in the form of the Masonic ‘square and compass’ is engraved on the dial. |
