Jewlers Brass Scales by R. Pringle and Sons. This is a brass scale, made in London, with two pans suspended with link chains from the ends of a beam. The whole is mounted on the main upright pole system with adjustable elevating lever. The main pole screws into a brass plate on the lid of the mahogany case. All hinges are made of edged steel. One pan is used for the goods to be weighted, the other for the weights. Equilibrium of the loads is indicated by an exactly horizontal position of the beam. The beam is marked 'class b' 'To weigh 10 Oz.' The mahogany box is marked R. Pringle & Sons London, Robert Lerkenwell Road EC 1 London. The scales include 13 weights dating from the reign of Elizabeth the II. Robert Pringle was a silversmith at the end of the 19th century. He also made clocks.
