The brass has a gold lacquer finish. John Doyle was a London scale maker, his firm being known as Doyle & Son from about 1865 onwards. This form of name appears on weights with pre-uniform verification marks. The firm made bankers and standard weights in 1826 and bronze cup weights marked with a crowned D&S GIV. About 1888, the firm took over the business of Nicholl and Fowler and was itself probably taken over by Avery's. Special shipping rates apply.
