Extremely nice English Grocer's scales with verification marks, made in Birmingham by W. and T. Avery. This is a brass scale with two pans suspended from the ends of a beam. One pan (the larger) is used for the goods to be weighted, the other for the weights. Equilibrium of the loads is indicated by an exactly horizontal position of the beam. The base and pillar are made of steel. Verification marks includes: A Victorian standard numbered stamp of a royal crown over cipher VR 105 (Lancaster County).
