Unique Glass Gum Pot or Paste Pot. A small glass pot with brass top with original brush. A gum pot was used to seal envelopes and glue stamps before they had gummed edges and backs. Stamps started having gum on their back only from the very end of the 19th century. The round brass top is decorate with incised rings and the elongated knob handle, has been blackened. The brush still retains its original bristles. A very similar pot can be seen on Queen Elizabeth's writing ddesk in Buckingham Palace. Overall height 9 cm (3.5 inches) |
