The design of LAMY safari fountain pen started in the 1970's by the Mannheim Development Group and Professor B. Spiegel, with the idea to produce a writing instrument of a higher technical quality and more sophisticated design. This pen was made with extremely hardwearing ABS plastic material. The steel nib section had two side moldings, to make it easier to grip and a strop to prevent the fingers slipping. The flat sides of the barrel prevent it from rolling away. Two large panels show how much ink is left in the cartridge or converter. The cap carries a prominent clip made of sprung bronze wire. The pen can be used with an ink cartridge or a screw-type piston converter to allow filling from an inkbottle. |
