Early 19th Century Chinese Tortoishell Spectacles In Shagreen Case. A pair of Tortoishell rimed round glasses with pierced and carved bridge and folding-out temples on swivel joints with flattened ends, all 4 brass hinges are riveted. The decorative ornamental ideogram design in the middle of the bridge is for longevity and a symbol of money. This style was probably made in the early 19th century. The wooden case is covered with high quality green Shagreen skin with the original leather lid-holder strap. Provenance: Optical Antique Collection of the Nosch Family (Founder: Isidor Nosch - Optic 1861, Freiburg). |
