A 19th Century Steel And Ebony Trepanning Skull Drill. This early Neurosurgical tool was made to drill a hole in the skull, about an inch in diameter. It consists of a crosshatched ebony wood handle with baluster stem and a crown trephine cutter, which acts as a circular saw. Located in the crown center, is a sharp perforator to guide the saw through the skull bone with push button located in the stem. Overall length 11 cm (4.4 inch).
