19th Century Collection Of 8 Porcelain Ointment Pots For Salves And Creams. The collection contains a mahogany stand and pots with under glazed labels as follows: 1. Ointment Pot for ‘The Egyptian Salve. Used for sores, wounds, ulcers, Abscesses, Burns, Scalds, Bad legs, Inflamed Eyes, Chilblains, Chapped Hands, Roughness of the Skin, Eruptions and Skin Diseases. For directions see the bill folded round this pot. Prepared only by: Reade Brothers & Co. Ltd. Manufacturing Chemists, Wolverhamton’. 2. Rare pot for ‘Scurvy Ointment’ made by J. Lignum & Sons with an under glazed label that reads ‘Established 1790. Sold Everywhere. Price 1s 9d’. 3. Pot for ‘Otto of Rose. Cold Cream’. 4. Pot for ‘Benzoin Cream, Unrivalled for softening, whitening & preserving the skin’. 5. Pot for ‘Dr. Rooke’s Golden Ointment. Discovered 1839. Price 1s 1 ½ d. Charles Rooke, MD, Giessen’. 6. Type II Pot for 'Clark's Miraculous Salve' for the 'Cure of Ulcerated Bad Legs, Boiled Abscesses, Fistulas, Bad Breasts & Gatherings of All Kinds’. Holloway’s Ointment Pot for ‘Inveterate Ulcers, Gout and Rheumatism, Sore Breasts, Sore Heads, Bad Legs’. The ointment was ‘manufactured only by the proprietor Holloway’s Ointment at 113 Southwark St. London’.
