Ophthalmoscope by J Gardner and Sons Edinburgh The ophthalmoscope was invented in 1851 by Hermann von Helmholtz. He stated that an ophthalmoscope needs to have these 3 things: a source of illumination a method of reflecting the light into the eye an optical means of correcting an unsharp image of the inner eye. In 1915 G.S. Crampton of Philadelphia invented the battery handle. The self-luminous ophthalmoscope could nowbe taken anywhere in the doctor's bag. This ophthalmoscope, is a direct type, hand-held instrument with a battery powered light source. It is equipped with a rotating disc of lenses to permit the doctor’s observation of the eye at varying depths and magnifications with 6 positive degrees of magnification and 6 negative degrees of magnification. This ophthalmoscope comes in its original velvet lined box. Also included is a spare lightbulb |
