Palestine in the Biblical Period about 1890.The map shows The ancient boundaries and territories of the 12 Jewish tribes. These regions are on the east and west side of the River Jordan. The ancient Roman divisions: JUDEA, SAMARIA, GALILEE, and PEREA. This is a detailed map on a nice scale showing cities, towns, roads, and routes. On the top left is an inset of Ancient Jerusalem in biblical times including the temple. Reduced from the maps of the Committee of the Palestine Exploration Fund Published by W. & R. Chambers London, and printed by W & AK Johnston. William and Alexander Keith, both worked for leading Scottish globe manufacturer James Kirkwood until the Great Fire of 1824 destroyed the firm. Unemployed William set up his own engraving shop on 1 December 1825 at 6 Hill Square. His brother Alexander Keith joined him in 1826. They were titled Engravers and Printers to the King for Scotland 1834-37, and to the Queen 1837-1901. William & Robert Chambers started their business at about 1820 as booksellers. By the end of the 19th century, W & R Chambers’ was one of the largest English-language publishers in the world. Size: 32cm by 26.5cm |
