Silver coin of the Jewish War. This is the half shekel silver coin struck in Jerusalem during the first year of the Jewish war against Rome (Year 66/67 CE). Obverse side: Chalice with smooth rim and a pearl on each side, the base and rim has pearled ends. Above the chalice is the date Hebrew letter F (aleph - which is year one). Around is the inscription - half a shekel. Reverse side: Stem with pearled base and three pomegranates. Around is the Hebrew inscription - Jerusalem the Holy. Reference: Hendin 656. |
