An Important Czech Walking Stick with Metal Badges, c. WWI. An ax handle wooden cane decorated with 9 metal badges from the town of Kalsbrunn, which today is called Karlova Studánka and is located in the Czech Republic. The badges show different sites and altitudes on the Altvater mountain, which is the heighest mountain in the Sudeten mountain range. The badges are: 1. Kurhotel Bad Karlsbrunn 2. Wurbenthal stad pfarrkirche (the parish church) 559 meters. 3. Gasthaus Theuer 828 meters. 4. Berggeist (mountain troll) 877 meters 5. Schutzhauser A. Rotenberg (The shelter at Rotenberg) 1011 meters. 6. Schaferei (Sheep farm) 1260 meters.7. Praded. (The tower at the summit) 1490 meters 8.Same as 7. 9. Sommerer Karlsthal. The handle and the cane are hand decorated with inscribed floral design and the name Karlsbrunn incised into the handle. The shaft is very sturdy and made for walking. The ferrule is made of steel. Overall length is 90 cm (35.4 inches). |
