This is a 14 tpi 'pistol grip' brass back tenon saw. It is signed Wm Marples 7 Sons Ltd Special Sheffield England on the saw and on the brass back. The fruitwood handel is connected to the saw via two screws.During the mid 18 hundreds there were no less than seven Marples' companies operating out of Sheffield all somehow related. William (b. 1809) was the founder of the firm William Marples & Sons. This company was eventually sold to Record in the 1950s. Saw length is 25.5cm overall length is 38cm
