A turned ebony Fleam Stick or Bloodstick. It was used to aid bloodletting. The practice of phlebotomy was used for centuries. The belief was that a person became ill because the fluids in his body were not balanced. Therefore. bleeding would restore this balance. The stick was used on the back of the fleam to drive it through the skin and vein. These sticks were mainly used on animals as their hide is rather thick. The top of this stick has many use marks.
