This is a 34 cm (13.4 inches) long reinforced brass plated ebony brace with ebony handle and ivory ring in head. The brace is marked on the brass 'Improved Brass Frame Brace' and 'J. Ralls Bridport.' This might be the James Ralls who was a local ironmonger who excavated in Bridport between 1876 and 1886 (Bridport Dorset south west England). A small chip is missing in the underside of the head.
