Item#: MIS450

This unique item is a brass cylinder with an integral mirror. Sexual organs of birds are located within the body. When chicks are hatched it is important to know whether they are hens or roosters. The rectum needs to be opened by a squeeze, the sexer then placed over it and with the aid of the mirror which is fixed inside at a 45° angle. The checker then looks for a bump. If the largish bump is there the chick is male. Vent sexing was first introduced to the western hemisphere in 1933 after a paper on the subject was published in Japan. Overall height is 7 cm (2.8 inches)
