This set is called ‘Palestine Through the Stereoscope’ and the cards (copyrighted 1895-1904) are inserted in a twin book-like box. Each card includes two Albumen prints photographed with a stereo-camera, a short description of the site and the company’s logo. Among the many places photographed are: Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the River Jordan, Nazareth, the Sea of Galilee, and the Dead Sea. The set comes with a hardcover book titled Travel in the Holy Land Through the Stereoscope, by Jesse Lyman Hurlbut D.D. Published by Underwood and Underwood in 1900. The book was written in order to accompany the stereocards. The book also contains 7 maps, 3 of which (Jerusalem, Galilee and Palestine) are fold out. The box and cards are in near mint condition. There is hardly any scuffing to the box and the cards seem to have never been used. The book is also in very good condition. Except for a small depression on the cover (see picture), all pages, and maps are in very good condition. . Underwood & Underwood began publishing stereographs in 1890 and established an educational unit in 1895. Around 1900 they introduced boxed sets, with specific themes such as education, religion, and travel, depicting tourist areas of the world.
